The Journey’s Start – Our Subsafe Story
I’ve been a mobile DJ and entertainer for over 20 years.
Our journey began in May 2012 when I bought brand new high end speakers and subs.
I was so proud of them. The sound quality was outstanding and they looked amazing.
My next gig was entertaining at a prestigious corporate ball. Much to my disbelief and anger, guests were placing drinks on the new subwoofer speakers.
I feared the worst, thinking that if a drink spilled over them, it would ruin the subs, the top speakers and other electrical items.
I asked guests to keep their drinks away and even made signs on paper, but they were ignored.
That’s when I knew I had to find a solution. And that’s when Subsafe was born.
Designs Take Shape
From Concept To Creation
I began working alongside Business Gateway in Renfrewshire, Scotland and with their advice, began working with various academic establishments such as the University of West of Scotland and the Glasgow School of Art.
My partner Laura joined the business and we worked together to develop the product.
We enlisted Filament Product Design to investigate various concepts and the pyramid shaped design was refined and developed.
It took 3 years of design, research, engineering, and manufacturing, but we finally had a product that meant drinks couldn’t be left on a sub, no matter which make or model it was. Needless to say, we were immensely proud!
Even though it’s a simple enough concept, it was a challenge to get a product that will fit any sub, whilst still being economically viable. As a result of the techniques, processes and design elements that go into each Subsafe product, it is patent pending and has a European design registration in place.
As of 12th September 2015, Subsafe Audio was officially launched and DJs all over the world no longer have to worry about the risk to their equipment and livelihood.
We continually update our site to reflect new subs coming to the market and popular ones that we haven’t featured yet.
So there is our Subsafe Story, thanks for reading.
